 International Commerce and International Economics

 International Business Management [3-3-0]

By analyzing audiovisual documentation and carrying out case studies on basic international business, an international corporation's environment, international strategy, and an international corporation's organization and administration, students will improve their abilities in decision making in international business and problem solving as a business manager.

 

 International Trade Theory [3-3-0]

Pure theoretical concepts in International Trade will be introduced. This course deals with traditional comparative advantage analysis of the causes of trade and the patterns and benefits of modern trade, with empirical verification. Further, international movement of production elements, problems experienced in international trade, economic development, problems experienced in international corporations, and economic integration theory will be studied.

 

 Foreign Trade Practice [3-3-0]

This course will discuss all relevant matters encountered in international trade, including international commercial terms and Revised American Foreign Trade Definitions.

 

 Research Methodology [3-3-0]

In this course, students will learn the basic elements of the manner of approach to social science. Accordingly, students will examine subject planning, hypothesis test, measurement of variables, and statistical methods for carrying out the hypothesis test, thus covering all the main aspects to be considered in making a thorough study of economics and trade.

 

 Econometric Analysis and Applications [3-3-0]

After learning the basic concepts of econometrics, such as regression analysis, students will gain experience in applying these concepts in international business situations.

 

 International e-business [3-3-0]

As the economic society changes from the traditional industrial society to a digital economic society, the development of an e-business model and its applications become increasingly important to commercial corporations. Especially in international trade and business, e-business models such as global SCM have been applied. This course focuses, in particular, on e-business models including ERP, CRP, and SCM.

 Special Topics on U-Business [3-3-0]

This course studies various systems which comprise combinations of physical and electronic elements. Consideration is given to intelligent/self-regulating systems and action/service arrangements, as well as new coordinated future business/application systems which are applied in shopping and store management. The course also analyzes components of SCM and CRM with reference to maintenance of machinery, manufacturing processes, distribution, and medical welfare; for these purposes, use is made of Ubiquitous.

 

 Global Human Resources Management [3-3-0]

As corporations become more extensively internationalized and globalized, the importance of systematic human resources management intensifies significantly. The aim of this course is to enhance students’ abilities in the area of human resources by analyzing human resources management processes and policies that are activated in a changing global environment.

 

 Special Topic International Internet Business [3-3-0]

For students who are taking a master's degree or doctor's degree program, this course investigates selected special topics in the area of International Internet Business.

 

 International Payment Practice [3-3-0]

This course will discuss various matters arising in international trade and international payment under the UN Convention on Independent Guarantees and Stand-by Letters of Credit 1996.

 

 International Transport Practice [3-3-0]

This course will discuss various matters arising in international transportation under the UNCTAD/ICC Rules for Multimodal Transport Documents and the Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules Relating to International Carriage by Air: Warsaw Convention.

 

 Sales Contract Practice [3-3-0]

This course will discuss various matters arising in connection with contracts for sale of trade goods under the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods: Vienna Convention 1980.

 

 Marine Insurance Practice [3-3-0]

This course will discuss various matters connected with insurance of goods under the Marine Insurance Act: MIA 1906 and Institute Cargo Clauses: I.C.C.

 

 Foreign Trade Customs [3-3-0]

This course will discuss various aspects of foreign trade customs, using David M. Sassoon's book “C.I.F and F.O.B Contracts."

 

 International Commercial Arbitration [3-3-0]

This course will study arbitration theory and practice where there are trade disputes between nations.

 International Legal Negotiation [3-3-0]

As the international trade environment changes, the importance of and need for legal negotiation are increasing in negotiations between nations which apply different policies. This course will take a close look at the types, stages, and strategies of legal negotiation.

 

 International Commercial Law [3-3-0]

International commercial law is the branch of law which governs a nation's commercial activity. The relevant policy applies to merchandise trade and distinguishes between domestic law and international law. This course studies the applicable trade laws.

 Case Studies in International Commerce [3-3-0]

This course studies a wide variety of commercial trading activities, classifying them under the headings of contract, insurance, transportation, claims, and negotiation.

 

 International Contract Law [3-3-0]

International Contract Law comprises the contract regulations applied in export and import between nations. The concept of international contract law is generally approved for application to agreements concluded internationally. The course will focus on the relevant regulations.

 

 International Intellectual Property Law [3-3-0]

This course analyzes the political problems that may be caused in international trade involving intellectual property rights, including patent rights, utility model rights, design rights, trademark rights, copyright, and business secrets.

 
 Special Topics in WTO System [3-3-0]

This course studies the economic background relating to how the WTO system was established to replace the GATT system. The course will also study the WTO's main agreement content. Major topics include each nation's law cases, direct investment, technology, problems of intellectual property rights, and the millennium round under the WTO system, as well as how the international commerce order will be changed.

This course studies selected issues from practical trade, international transportation, marine insurance, trade claims/arbitration, and export insurance.

 International Marketing [3-3-0]

This course studies international corporations’ activities and marketing management. The main areas include a multinational business environment and opportunities for marketing, referring to a strategic plan, mix strategy, and marketing organization and control.

 

 International Financial Management [3-3-0]

This course examines corporations that participate in international organization activity. The main topics include decisions on foreign investment, capital budget, foreign exchange risk control, international financing/management, and problems of international taxation.

 

 International Business Strategy [3-3-0]

This course discusses corporate theory of international business strategy and case studies which show adaptation to accelerated globalization.

 

 Internation Business Environment and Policy [3-3-0]

This course discusses awareness of an international corporation's social responsibility following globalization, as well as an international corporation's ethics, which are founded on each foreign country's local international business activity.

 International Competitive Strategy [3-3-0]

This course studies and discusses sources of international competitiveness by using the frameworks of macroscopic & microscopic analysis.

 

 Comparative Multinational Management [3-3-0]

To enhance comparison and analysis of an international corporation's organizational environment, this course studies international business strategy problems related to differences in foreign countries’ local cross-cultural cooperation, organization, and adaptation.

This course studies negotiation theory and practical skills to resolve conflict problems between an international corporation's foreign activities and local government, consumers, suppliers, and the local regional society

 

 Theory of Foreign Direct Investment [3-3-0]

This course studies the theory of international corporations and Korean corporations as regards foreign investment theory by comparison of international direct investment levels which international corporations select universally, the theory which has been determined, and each theory's ability to explain actual events.

 

 International Internet Marketing [3-3-0]

This course considers a corporation's internationalization information network system, and through the establishment of internet business, the course studies the international internet marketing theoretical model.

 International Resource Management [3-3-0]

This course considers foreign resources development strategy in an international corporation’s environment and seeks to find Korean corporations' foreign resource strategies.

 

 Special Topic in International Business [3-3-0]

For master's degree and doctor's degree students, this course will study a specific field in international business which is a major field of study.

 

 Theory of International Investment [3-3-0]

Based on foreign direct investment, this course investigates the theory of foreign investment, decision structure and effects, and empirical studies. The course also analyzes a variety of economic ripple effects, such as accumulation of capital effect, technology transfer effect, employment effect, international payment effect, and domestic industrial restructuring effect. Lastly, this course studies multinational corporation theory, FDI theory, and international division of labor theory in association.

 

 Special Topics on Electronic Trade [3-3-0]

This course discusses problems of all types in electronic trade based on UNCITRAL Model Law on Electronic Commerce and CMI Rules for Electronic Bills of Lading.

 

 Korea's Foreign Trade and Development [3-3-0]

This course helps students who have learned pure trade theory to understand Korean trade fully by analyzing the role of trade, trade policy, and many other growth factors in trade.

 Studies on the Asia-Pacific Economy [3-3-0]

This course provides an overview of the economics and economic cooperative relationship of Asia-Pacific countries. Also, the course analyzes the regional institutions' roles and current problems in APEC as well as Korea's role.

 Studies on the European Economy [3-3-0]

Looking at trade tactics against Europe, rising as a single economic bloc surpassing the United States and Japan, this course studies ways in which our country can extend its overseas expansion and systematically analyzes the economic effects.

 

 Studies on the North and South American Economy [3-3-0]

This course studies the economic relationship between Korea and the major economies, including the United States and Canada, as well as the South American countries' economic status and their prospects for the future. Especially, the course surveys the United States' economic management of neo-liberalism and the new economy.

 Studies on the Northeast Asian Economy [3-3-0]

This course examines the current economies of Northeast Asian countries (South and North Korea, China, Japan, and East Russia) and discusses the rise of regionalism with the Northeast economic zone functioning in a variety of ways.

 

 International Economic Integration [3-3-0]

This course studies regional economic integration and related topics including international economic organizations such as WTO. We shall consider multilateralism, customs union, common market, economic union, and monetary union.

 

 Theory of International Trade Policy and Application [3-3-0]

This course studies the government's political intervention in international trade and theory of its economic and social effects. Also, the course investigates the differences between tariff and non-tariff policies among large and small countries, and among developed countries and undeveloped countries. Moreover, by using case studies on leading countries, this course analyzes the positive and negative sides of each of these policies. Through study of WTO's role and precedent cases of disputes, this course will seek a good direction for international trade policy.

 

 International Economic Organizations [3-3-0]

This course studies the foundation background, current conditions of operation, relationship with Korea, and further course of development of major international organizations including WTO, IMF, IBRD, EU, and NAFTA.

 International Economic Policy [3-3-0]

This course studies pure international trade theory's practical significance and the effect of government intervention in free trade and trade policy. Also, the course introduces trade restrictions in the political economy, customs and non-tariff barriers’ economic effects, and strategic trade policies. This course also deals with economic integration theory, exchange rate under open economy macroeconomic mode, budget, fiscal policy, and a nation's economic policy problems in international cooperation.

 

 International Financial Market [3-3-0]

This course studies the current flow of international finance and its mechanism by taking a close look at the international financial market's role, policy, and organization.

 

 International Monetary Theory [3-3-0]

This course deals with all the effects of international monetary trade and studies the foreign exchange market, international capital movements, international financial market, and theory of international liquidity.

 Theory of Foreign Exchange [3-3-0]

This course studies the basic concepts of foreign exchange market, forward exchange, trade in financial derivatives, expectations and decisions on foreign exchange, management of foreign exchange risk, and foreign exchange policy.

 Special Topics in International Economics [3-3-0]

This course studies and discusses the special topics in international economics.

 

 International Commerce and Trade [3-3-0]

This course analyzes the order of international trade and the international market's phenomenon of change based on the multilateral trade system, regional trade agreements, and major trading countries’ commercial policy. Also, the course studies political change and the international market transfer process of international business organizations, such as WTO, OECD, and IMF, that rule international commerce. To make connections with these changes, this course explores the Korean economy's development direction and foreign policy.

 

 Trade Negotiation and Conflict Resolution [3-3-0]

This course studies the principles of international negotiation which are needed for multilateral trade negotiations, FTA negotiations, and reciprocity negotiations, as well as negotiation strategy to resolve conflicts. The course also studies the methods of negotiation which can overcome the critical factors in bargaining power, such as differences in national strength, language, and culture. Also, this course studies a global corporation's negotiation skills and ways to resolve conflicts in export and import advice, technology transfer, and investment cooperation.

 Theory of Service Trade [3-3-0]

This course studies one nation's economic analysis of production, consumption, and distribution of services, the changing trend of the international services market, the volume of services trade, the comparative advantage system of the services industry, and decision factors in international competitiveness. The course also studies the theory of services trade, including finance, communication networks, education, medical treatment, law, accounting, tours, culture, transportation, and specialist jobs, as well as rules to be applied when approaching the market.

 

 Empirical International Economics [3-3-0]

This course details accurate and precise factual relations concerning various international economic phenomena under relevant theories by performing related statistical analysis. By applying international economic theory's empirical analysis modeling, the course studies the current analysis of actual proof methods such as the gravity model, CGE model, and dynamic panel analysis.
